Panacea Black Classic Toro Review

Wrapper: Brazilian Maduro
Filler: Cuban seed Seco, Ligero, Olor Dominicano, Nicaraguan
Price: $6.00

Since I enjoyed the Panacea that I smoked earlier this week, I thought it would be fitting to smoke another one for review. So I went back up to the new shop near my house, The Smoking Dog, and I was asked to review this one as well. Since they are the only shop around me that I know of that sells these, it a good thing its only a ten minute drive. I am really looking forward to their new lounge opening up in a couple weeks so that I could do some reviews from there.

This cigar looks amazing. It has a very smooth wrapper, and is practically veinless. The cap is perfectly flush, to the point where I had to make sure it wasn’t the wrapper folded over. The Brazilian maduro is a medium shade of brown, and lighter than most maduros I am used to. There is a very sweet smell coming off of this stick. Almost like cedar and chocolate combined. This stick is very solid, with a nice solid foot. The clean was very clean and was very easy to light.

The flavors were great right away. There was a very woody start with a little bit of spice. Within the first inch, the spice died down and became very earthy. This is also the first time that a cigar tasted salty to me. Yes, I said salty. It was strange, it was seriously the last flavor I thought I would get. Shortly after I was greeted with a mild chocolate flavor. These two combined for a salty and sweet flavor that was very unique.

By the second third, the wood and earth took over completely. There was a mild cedar sweetness that started to build up. Along with this came some earthy hay notes. The flavors were becoming very distinct. By halfway the spice had become very minor. Then all of a sudden the cigar became very creamy. There were some nice chocolate undertones that came back. The cedar went away, and the flavor actually became more like oak. The finish was very earthy, very woody, and very smooth. The spice was stronger on the finish than ever before in this stick

The ash was a medium to dark shade that held on about half way. There was a nice layered pattern to it as well. The burn and draw were great throughout the entire stick as well. The smoke was very thick and creamy. The thick white smoke gave off a very earthy and spicy aroma that woke me up during the fresh morning air.

This stick kept me on my feet. The flavor were constantly changing and swirling. It wasn’t too strong and it wasn’t too light. It was a great cigar to light up at 7:00 am. I felt like I started the day off on the right foot with this one. I recommend trying some of these if you can get your hands on them. I give this one an 8 out of 10.

Enjoy,

  1. I picked up one of the ones with a green label (not sure what it's called) last week while out of town. The tobacconist highly recommended it. I'll have to post on r/cigars how it was one I smoke it.

  2. Got these for my wedding. They were a hit with the novices, and I like them too. Green Label is still my favorite. I do find that the sticks I get direct from Paul need a little aging.
