Back in October I was at a cigar event down in Delaware. One of the venders there happened to be Rocky Patel. This cigar was just released before this event so it was new on the market. When I was talking with the rep, I mentioned my reviews, and he gave me a couple of  the Thunders to try out. I had one there, and thought it was good that I had another one I could save for review.

The cigar features a dark brown habano wrapper. The wrapper is very smooth and oily. There are no veins throughout the entire wrapper that would cause any burn patterns. This stick is very solid and tightly packed throughout. The cap is perfectly flush and featured three layers. There is also a good aroma coming off of this stick. It is slightly spicy and earthy.

As soon as I lit up this cigar, I knew how it got its name. The spice was very powerful. There was also a slight sweetness to help mask a little bit of the spice. The sweetness quickly mellows out and the spice keeps picking up. Once the sweetness was practically gone, there was a good amount of earthiness comes out. Already I could tell that with a couple months age, this cigar has developed wonderfully.

A while back, a reader of mine sent me this cigar for review. It is a completely new stick to me, but I have heard of it before. I have seen specials on these, and was always tempted to try them, but did not want to commit to a box. So when this cigar showed up, I was excited to give it a shot. I have heard mixed things about it, so it was time for me to find out for myself.

The Mexican Maduro is almost the color of dark chocolate. He wrapper itself is flawless. There were no veins, and no spots that were different shades. The stick is very solid throughout. There were no softer spots, not even the foot. The cap was multiple layers, and perfectly flush. The cigar gave off a very earthy and sweet aroma. Cutting this cigar was very easy and clean. Lighting it wasn’t easy because of the morning breeze.

Once I got this cigar lit, the flavors came out immediately. It was very earthy off of the start, but shortly into the cigar, a mild spice formed. Some nice oak flavor comes out about in inch into this cigar. Around this same point, the spice picks up quite a bit. This flavor combination stayed pretty consistent until almost the halfway point. Around then, a slight, creamy sweetness starts peeking out.

So as I was walking around my local shop, this box caught my eye. All I saw were two Rams butting heads together. I thought it was a cool design, because something as powerful as two rams should mean the cigar is equally as powerful. Then I saw the price, and decided it was definitely one to try.

This cigar is a beastly 6” x 58. The wrapper was chocolate brown and smelled of sweet chocolate as well. The construction is flawless. There were no veins that could alter the burn pattern in any way, very solid stick with minimal soft spots. Once I cut this cigar, I knew I was in for a treat.

This year on Fathers Day, my father and I went over to Center City Philly for a few hours. While we were over there we stopped in a cigar shop to see what they had. When I walked over to the Rocky Patel section, I saw this one standing out. The reason it stood out to me was the band. Usually when I see Rocky Patel sticks they have earthy colors, this was unique with its various shades of teal.

When I got up early Saturday morning, this cigar looked like the perfect morning stick. The medium brown, oily wrapper had no thick veins, no soft spots and was a perfect box press. The stick itself smelled earthy and sweet. I knew I picked the right cigar for the early morning.

The more I smoke Rocky Patel cigars, the more I like them. This cigar was the last in the box at my local shop, so I figured I better grab it and give it a try. Once I took this cigar out of its tube, the darkness of the wrapper drew me. I knew I was in for a treat with this stick.

Before I lit this stick I gave it a good look over. This cigar smelled very sweet. If the cigar tastes half as good as it smells I will be in for quite a treat. The cigar is packed very tight as well. There weren’t really any soft spots in this stick. And there were a few veins, mostly really small, thin veins.

Rocky Patel Olde World Reserve Toro Maduro Review (Saturday Morning Smoke)

Wrapper: Costa Rican Maduro

Filler: Combination from Nicaragua, Panama, and Honduras

To me, there is nothing more relaxing than getting up on a Saturday morning and sitting outside with a nice cigar and a cup of freshly brewed coffee. So for now on I am going to do a weekly Saturday Morning Smoke, weather permitting of course.

Before I lit this stick up I gave it a nice look over. The wrapper had a few thick veins in it, but posed no problem throughout the entire smoke. The wrapper was jet black but smelled wonderfully sweet. The smell of the cigar resembled a combination of aromatic pipe tobacco and cedar. The cigar cut very easily and cleanly, and lit with no effort at all.
