601 Green Oscuro Review

Wrapper: Nicaraguan Habano Oscuro
Filler: Nicaraguan
Price: $7.00

About a month ago I received this cigar in the mail from a friend. He sent is as a surprise along with a couple other cigars to review. I have heard a couple people talk about how powerful this cigar was. So I had to wait until the right day and after a good meal to take this one out for review. So after I got home from work the other night, I decided it was time to take this cigar out and enjoy it.

The wrapper is a nice chocolate brown shade with a little bit of an oily shine to it. There were no thick veins throughout the entire wrapper, there were a couple thin ones, but they were no worry to me. The multi-layered cap was perfectly flush. This cigar was solid from the cap to the foot. There was not one soft spot throughout the entire stick. There was also a nice sweet earthy smell coming off of the stick that I liked.

The flavor of this cigar literally kicked me in the mouth right away. There was a nice helping of spice right off the bat. There were also some nice toasty notes right away as well. I have never had a cigar that was this full bodied that fast. About an inch in, there were some nice wood notes forming. I was picking up little bits and pieces of chocolate in the underlying flavor.

About two inches in, the chocolate picked up quite a bit more. This flavor leads to a very sweet smoke that I enjoyed a great deal. By the halfway point of the stick, the woody notes really kick up a notch and remain on my palate. There is still a good amount of spice present, but the sweetness of the chocolate died down to just a minor undertone.

The last couple inches of this stick were crazy. The spice came back stronger than any time before. The chocolate flavor disappeared, but it lead to a sweet cedar flavor to come out. This is the first time I have had two completely different sweet flavors pop up within an inch of each other. This cigar had a great flavor profile throughout the entire duration.

This is not a cigar for the new smoker. This is definitely one of the strongest sticks I have ever smoked. It packed quite a punch in its little robusto size. I couldn’t imagine smoking a bigger size because it would probably knock me out. I give this an 8 out of 10.

Enjoy,

Zack the Stogie Man

  1. I liked this stick ok, but was a bit underwhelmed by it. I really like the red label habano and need to try the blue label.
