Don Pepin Garcia Series JJ Maduro Sublime Review

Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro
Filler: Nicaraguan Corojo and Criollo
Price: $11.50

This cigar has been sitting in my humidor for a couple months now. I first picked one up back in December to try out, and thought it was very good then. So I decided to pick up another one and let it rest in my humidor for a couple months to see how it matured.

Since the weather has been so nice lately, I have been able to review bigger cigars instead of just robustos. This one was in my radar when I was searching for something to review.

This cigar features a chocolate brown wrapper with a slight red hint to it. There is not a single thick vein running through the wrapper at all. There is also a nice oily shine to this cigar as well. The cigar is solid all the way through from cap to foot. The cap is perfectly flush and composed of three layers. The aroma coming off of this cigar is very sweet and resembles that of aromatic pipe tobacco.

Once I lit this cigar up, I was amazed at just how smooth it started out. There was a little bit of pepper, but it was overpowered by the oak and cream flavors. After a few puffs some light chocolate tones came out. The light pepper started to coat my palate almost immediately while the sweetness of the chocolate stuck to my tongue.

By about an inch or so into this cigar, the oak flavor changed over to more of a cedar flavor. The sweetness of the cedar mixed with the chocolate worked perfectly together to create a very sweet base to the flavor profile. The earthiness really picks up and some leather notes start to form.

Once I moved into the second third, the creaminess and chocolate flavors became much more prominent. The leather also seemed to build up a little bit more and it started to sit on my palate a little bit. By the halfway point, a very strong coffee flavor came out and quickly took over my palate. The pepper and cedar notes picked up quite a bit as well.

By the start of the last third this cigar had started to mellow out. It was still strong, but not like it was previously. The coffee and cream flavors mixed well with the cedar and chocolate flavors to create a very nice flavor profile. The finish was absolutely great with a ton of flavor.

As you probably guessed, this cigar was constructed flawlessly. The ash was a medium shade of gray with some dark spots. The ash did hang on for about two inches at a time. The burn was perfectly even throughout and drew very easily. The draw produced a thick white smoke that gave off a very woody and spicy aroma.

This cigar is great. Yes, it is a little pricey, but it is well worth it if you want to treat yourself. It is a full bodied cigar, so I wouldn't suggest this to be something for the novice cigar smokers. I feel this cigar deserves a 9 out of 10.

Thanks for reading,
