Wrapper: San Andres Maduro
Filler: Nicaraguan
Price: $11.00 - $12.00
Just wanted to start off by saying Thank You to all of my readers. This is my 100th review. It feel like yesterday that I started this website. Once I realized that this milestone was approaching, I had to find an amazing cigar to smoke for the occasion. So when I was walking around a cigar shop, this cigar was just put on the shelves. I couldn’t think of a better cigar to smoke for this one.
The maduro wrapper is dark brown and very oily. The wrapper is flawless. There is no thick veins throughout the entire wrapper. The cap was multiple layers and perfectly flush. This stick is solid from cap to foot. The cigar itself gives off a very sweet chocolate smell. The cut was very clean, and the cigar was very easy to light.
The flavors are amazing right away. There are some very nice wood tones that come out right off of the light. Shortly into the stick, some spice comes out. As soon as the spice comes out, so does some strong earth. About an inch into this cigar, the flavors all combine together nicely. The wood and spice notes are a perfect compliment to each other.
Around the start of the second third, there was a little bit of coffee bitterness that formed. The spice is lingering in the back of my throat. The wood notes were still very strong, but in no way were they overpowering. There was also a nice creamy flavor that grew on the palate. Just when I thought that this cigar couldn’t become more complex, there was a slight chocolate undertone that poked out.
The last couple inches of this stick were very good. The spice mellows out and gives way to the strong earth and wood tones. The chocolate note picked up a little bit more, but they were still not too strong. The finish was great and very flavorful.
The ash on this cigar was almost white. The ash was also nicely layered and held on until the half way point. The burn was perfectly even after it started out slightly wavy. The draw was very easy and produced a very thick white smoke. The smoke gave off a very earthy and spicy aroma.
This cigar is great. If you are a fan of the original Oliva Serie V, you will love this one. They are in limited production, so you have to get them before they are gone. This cigar easily deserves a 9 out of 10.
Here’s to 100 more,
Zack the Stogie Man
Congrats on the milestone! I'll have to keep an eye out for these as San Andreas Maduros is a weekness of mine and I enjoy the Serie V. How great would this be in a Lancero?
