My Father Cedros Deluxe Eminentes Review

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Habano Rosado
Filler: Nicaraguan
Price: $8.50

The past few days have been very cold here in New Jersey. So, my ability to smoke and review a cigar a fairly limited. On Saturday I went over to Holt’s Cigars in Northeast Philadelphia so I could enjoy a cigar in a warm environment. When I arrived, there was a sign on the door saying that it was inventory day, and they would be closing at 3:00. I looked at my watch and noticed it was 2:45. Well after driving over there, I wasn’t going to not buy anything. Well then I started to talk to their General Manager, and invited me back into the Members Lounge where I could relax and do my review. This was greatly appreciated.

The first thing I noticed about this cigar was the cedar sleeve that covers this cigar. Once the cedar is removed, the beautiful medium brown wrapper is exposed. The wrapper is very smooth and oily. There is a perfectly flush triple cap on this cigar as well. There is only one very thing vein running on the underside of this cigar. The cigar looks perfect in every way. The cigar is also very solid with a slightly softer foot which made it very easy to light.

Upon lighting up this cigar, I noticed a very nice spice. There was also a strong earthy tone that came out almost immediately. After a few puffs, the spice quickly mellowed and gave way to some very nice coffee notes. As the cigar progressed slowly, a little bit of cedar came out.

By about an inch in, the earthiness and wood tones completely took over. The spice that I am used to with the My Father cigars wasn’t there completely. The spice was more of a minor accent flavor to the earth and wood. But the entire first third was very good.

Right around the start of the second third, the spice picked back up quite a bit. Now the spice was almost on the level of the other My Father cigars. The wood notes sit on the palate very nicely. The cedar tones continue to pick up slowly as the cigar progresses.

By half way, the spice mellowed out again to the lightest it has been throughout the entire cigar. It was, however, still a fantastic accent flavor. Then some more flavors came out that I wasn’t expecting. There were some new nutty tones that came out with some more coffee flavor. These couple inches were very complex and surprising.

The last couple inches of this cigar did not disappoint. The spice picks up again, but this time it sticks around throughout the finish. The flavor profile was still very woody, but now it was a combination of cedar and oak. The cedar adds a perfect amount of sweetness to compliment the spice. All of the flavors seemed to work perfectly with each other.

The ash on this cigar was a medium shade of gray and nicely layered. The ash also held on for about an inch at a time. The burn was perfectly even all the way through. The draw was very easy, which I wasn’t expecting because of how thin the cigar was. The smoke that was produced was very thick and gray. The clouds of smoke were much larger than I was expecting them to be. The aroma I was getting was very woody.

This was a cigar that I could enjoy on a regular basis. It wasn’t too big, and it didn’t take a long time to smoke. The smoke time was just over an hour and it was a pleasure the whole way through. I would give this cigar a 8 out of 10.

Thanks for reading,

  1. Good review. I remember opening my first box of these. A store owner and I were busting balls and joking around. I guess he appreciated the laughs since he gave me a killer deal on a box and we opened it together. Both of us were just taken in by the beauty of the presentation. You can tell just looking at them that these are not your run-of-the-mill cigar.
