Over my years of smoking cigar, one cigar has stood out because of its accessibility. When I first heard about the Liga Privada, I was in college. After doing some research, I found a cigar shop in town that carried them. Because I was on a college budget, they were a little too expensive for me. When I finally had the money to get one, I did. Years later, at one of my local shops, I saw the T52 Flying Pig, so I got one of those and enjoyed it as well. Last week, I was in Center City Philadelphia when I stopped in Holt’s and was talking to their GM. He showed me the new Feral Flying Pig, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to review it.

The maduro wrapper is very dark, almost black in color. It is also very oily and smooth. There are almost no veins running throughout the entire wrapper. This stick is ridiculously solid with not a single spot in it that was soft. One thing that sticks out about this cigar is the cap. It has a very tightly wound pigtail cap that unwinds to about an inch and a half. There is also a very sweet smell coming off of this cigar. I cant exactly pinpoint it, but it is nice. This cigar, because of how tight it was packed, cut very clean and lit easily.

When I got the first few puffs out of this cigar, I knew I was in for a good time. There was a good helping of spice right away. I could tell that this cigar was extremely full bodied within the first few puffs. There was also a very strong earthiness at the start. Then, I started getting some of the sweetness that I smelled on the cigar. There were some definite chocolate notes peeking through the smoke.

By about in inch of the way into this cigar, I was already getting a slight buzz. The spice really picked up and became a strong player in the flavor profile. Also there were some good wood notes that came out. It took some time to taste it, but it reminded me of cedar. So throughout the rest of the first third, there was a good sweet and spicy combination.

The earthiness really picked up in the mid-section of this cigar. The spice was still strong, but not like it was before. The spice dulled slightly. The sweetness of the chocolate and cedar both disappeared quite abruptly, but that gave way to some nice leather notes. The leather quickly build on the palate.

The last couple inches were unlike any other part of this cigar. The spice picked right back up, but some new flavors entered. The leather and earth tones were still very strong as well, but now there was a great creaminess on the end of the exhale. There was actually a little bit of coffee flavor on the exhale as well. Throughout this whole cigar, the flavors weren’t too complex, but the consistent flavor that was there was very good.

The ash was very strong, as I expected it to be. It held on for about half the length of the stick. The ash was a nice light gray color and was layered. The burn pattern surprised me a bit. Usually with thick wrappers like this one, they will burn a bit uneven, but the line on this one was almost perfect. The draw was a little tight at first, but as the cigar progressed, the draw opened up a produced a ton of thick white smoke. The smoke also gave off a very earthy aroma.

I would definitely smoke this cigar again. I know that it is fairly rare, so if you get the chance to get it, you should. Sure it’ll run you about $15, but it is something you may never get to smoke again. I give it a 9.25 out of 10. I would have rated it higher if the flavor was more complex.
