Camacho Connecticut Toro Review

Wrapper: Connecticut Shade Ecuadorian
Filler: Honduran and Dominican
Price: $7.00

This is a cigar I received several months back as a gift. I honestly forgot about it until i was craving a milder cigar, which is a rare occurrence. I have had good experiences with Camacho cigars in the past so I instantly grabbed this one. It was towards the bottom of my humidor where it has been aging for at least the past six months, possibly even longer.

I first had this cigar about a year ago, and it was very good then. I am excited to see how the age on this cigar is going to change the profile.

The one think I do like about Connecticut shade wrappers is just how smooth they are. A downfall to them, is that they can be very thin and delicate. This one was flawless. Its light brown color would have shown the slightest imperfection, but I didn't see any.

Zack the Stogie Man's Honorable Mentions for 2011

After spending the last couple weeks working on my Top 10 of 2011, I found it difficult not to give the proper respect to all the cigars that were worthy. There are five other cigars that were very close to making the list, but I felt that they just didn’t leave an impression like the others did.

I felt it was only fair to create the list of some of some honorable mentions for the best cigars I reviewed this year.

Camacho Corojo Limited 07/05 Review

Wrapper: Honduran Corojo
Filler: Honduran Corojo
Price: $10.50

The other day I received a package in the mail from a friend of mine, inside the package contained this beauty. So I was sitting down last night trying to figure out my next few reviews, this one was on the top of the list. I have not reviewed many Camacho cigars, nor have I smoked that many. So with this opportunity to do my friend a favor, as well as enjoy this smoke, I decided to do the review right away.

The first thing I notice about this cigar is its odd shape. The foot is very thin, and it tapers to get thicker. It almost resembles the shape of a baseball bat. The beautiful corojo wrapper was a medium shade of brown. There were a couple thin veins throughout it, but nothing was major. This stick is very solid with a very solid foot. This cigar gives off a very sweet pre-light aroma, almost resembling chocolate and earth. This stick cuts very clean and is very easy to light.

The flavors are very robust right off of the light. There is some strong earth and some strong wood right away. There is a little bit of spice that lingers on the tongue early on as well. About an inch in, there are some strong leather notes to come out. The spice also picks up quite a bit. The combination of the leather and spice coat the palate nicely. Towards the end of the first third, there was a slight bitter undertone of coffee that I was sensing.

Camacho Triple Maduro Review

Wrapper: Honduran Maduro
Filler: Honduran Maduro
Price: $11.50

I received this cigar is a trade earlier this month. I have been planning on reviewing this cigar for some time, its just a little to expensive for me, so it kept getting passed over. But once it was sent to me, I felt it was time to finally review it. This cigar is unique in the fact that every bit of tobacco in this cigar is maduro, usually cigars only use maduros as the wrapper. I knew this cigar was going to be great before I smoked it because maduros produce great flavor. How could this much be bad?

This cigar looks great. It is almost black. There is no thick veins throughout the entire leaf, which is always a great thing. The cigar itself is very solid, there is no spongy or softer spot throughout the entire stick. The cap appears to be oversized, it looks as though it comes about a half inch down the cigar.  The maduro wrapper gives off a very sweet pre-light aroma.

The flavor was fantastic immediately. It dished out a nice helping of spice and chocolate instantly. Shortly after the light, the spice mellowed out  and allows some wood and other sweet notes to open up. As the cigar progressed, the smoke just got creamier, which let to a good amount of flavor to be left on the palate. There are a few bits of coffee notes that kept popping up every once and awhile.
